The tour begins at approximately 7:30 a.m. with hotel pickup, followed by a scenic drive through the Andes in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. As you travel, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of lush valleys and local wildlife.

Your first stop is Moray, located about 24 miles (38 km) from Cusco. This archaeological site is famous for its circular agricultural terraces, known as muyus, which reach a depth of up to 262 feet (80 meters). Each terrace simulates a different climate, with temperature variations of 0.5 to 1.5°C between levels. These microclimates allowed the Incas to grow crops that wouldn’t thrive elsewhere, showcasing their advanced understanding of agriculture.

Next, you’ll visit the Salt Mines of Maras, a collection of roughly 3,000 salt pools that yield between 110 and 175 pounds (50 to 80 kg) of salt per season. Fed by a natural underground stream, these pools rely on a slow evaporation process that takes nearly two months per cycle. The extracted salt, particularly the pink mineral variety, is prized for its purity and medicinal qualities, making it a popular item among locals and visitors alike.
