This tour is perfect for you if you enjoy nature and hiking.
Humantay is a snow-capped mountain that forms part of the Andean range, standing out alongside the impressive Salkantay and Humantay peaks. The melting snow from these mountains gives rise to the stunning Humantay Lake, whose unique turquoise color draws thousands of visitors from around the world.
The hike to the lake offers a profound sense of peace and tranquility, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of nature. The lake sits at an altitude of approximately 4,200 meters (13,780 ft) above sea level, in the district of Mollepata. It is located about 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) from the town of Mollepata via an unpaved road. From Soraypampa, there is a 3-kilometer hike (1.8 miles), which takes about 3 hours round trip.
This sacred place is steeped in Andean mysticism, making it a popular destination for both shamans and travelers who leave offerings to Pachamama, the Andean goddess representing Mother Earth. According to local legend, the Humantay glacier is the youngest “son” of Apu Salkantay, and together they are responsible for providing water to the communities living at the base of these majestic mountains.
